Australian Beef Imports Aim to Stabilize Canadian Prices

Australian exporters are increasing shipments of competitively priced beef to Canada, where consumers have faced rising retail costs. In Alberta, price gaps of more than $40 per kilogram between domestic and Australian cuts have prompted grocery stores to stock the cheaper imports.

Experts such as Sylvain Charlebois of Dalhousie University note that colder Canadian climates raise feeding and housing expenses, while low shipping costs from Oceania keep Australian beef affordable. Industry representatives, including Brenda Rosadiuk of Alberta Beef Producers, acknowledge tight supplies and inventory pressures but see the added import options as a way to balance the market and ease price volatility for Canadian shoppers.
