Australian Catholic groups roll out ecology gathering and safeguarding campaign

Caritas Australia and Catholic Religious Australia are hosting the national Catholic Earthcare Season of Creation Gathering 2026, an online event on 3–4 September. The two‑day program features keynote speakers such as Bishop Timothy Norton, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong of Suva, Julie Edwards (CEO, Jesuit Social Services) and Rev Anthony J Doran, focusing on integral ecology, Catholic Social Teaching and practical actions for caring for the common home, in line with Pope Francis’ call for ecological conversion.

In parallel, the Australian Catholic Church is marking Safeguarding Sunday with the theme “Every conversation matters – shifting conversations to action.” The Archdiocese of Adelaide is encouraging parishes, schools and diocesan departments to join a safeguarding commitment‑wall competition, where participants write or draw personal pledges to promote safe, inclusive environments for children and adults.

Both initiatives aim to deepen faith‑based formation, inspire concrete actions and foster a culture of responsibility within Catholic communities across Australia.
