Australian cattle markets see rising prices and strong demand
Livestock markets across Australia are seeing increased activity and rising prices, driven by improved cattle quality and recent rainfall in several regions.
In high-end stud sales, Talbalba Herefords saw a top price of $64,000 for the bull Talbalba Stand Alone. Similarly, the Redbank Angus sale reached a record top price of $23,000 for Redbank Magnum W35, despite a 48 per cent increase in the number of bulls offered. Exton Angus also reported a full clearance with bulls reaching $12,000 each.
In store cattle markets, prices are trending upward. At the Bairnsdale sale, cattle prices were nearly $100 a head higher than the previous year, aided by recent rain. At the Leongatha sale, heavy cattle prices rose by approximately 10 cents per kilogram, with buyers expressing confidence due to wet spring forecasts. The Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange also reported firm to dearer prices, as hoped-for rainfall renewed competition among local restockers. Meanwhile, the Naracoorte sale saw prices bounce back despite a larger than average winter yarding.
