Australian cattle sales see strong spring prices and high turnover

Livestock markets in regional Australia have seen strong performance during recent spring cattle sales. At the Bill Wyndham & Co Annual Opening Spring Sale in East Gippsland, prices exceeded expectations with 2,399 cattle yarded, including steers and heifers of Angus, Hereford, and Charolais breeds. Livestock manager Jake Fullgrabe described the sale as “unbelievable,” noting that prices for some lines were significantly higher than anticipated.

Similarly, the Gordon Sinclair Memorial Weaner Sale at the Wangaratta Livestock Exchange achieved a $10.1 million turnover. The sale featured 5,443 head of cattle, benefiting from a favorable winter that improved animal weights. Light steers averaged approximately $6.10/kg, while heavy steers exceeding 330kg averaged over $2,000 per head. Producers noted that mild winter conditions and adequate rainfall have contributed to the high quality and weight of the spring drop cattle.
