Robert Alan Barton faces extended child‑abuse charges in Gulgong

Robert Alan Barton, 65, of Gulgong has been charged with multiple counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 and sexual intercourse with a child under 10. Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad received initial reports in December 2025, leading to his arrest on 27 January 2026.

During a brief mention of the case in Mudgee Local Court on 29 July, his solicitor Helen Stanbury disclosed that additional complainants have come forward. The court granted an application under section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Act to extend the deadline for filing charge certificates, allowing the Crown to consider all complaints together. A further hearing is scheduled for August 2026.

The case remains in custody while the prosecution finalises the charge certification process.
