Australian cyclist Georgia Baker clinches fifth Commonwealth Games gold

Georgia Baker added a fifth Commonwealth Games gold medal to her record, winning the women's scratch race at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. The victory places her alongside Australian cycling legends such as Anna Meares, Matt Glaetzer and Brad McGee, each with five Games golds.

Baker’s triumph was part of a broader Australian sweep on the track, with teammates also securing medals in the individual pursuit and elimination races. Her performance was highlighted by a strong lead‑out from teammate Claudia Marcks and a decisive sprint in the final laps.

Beyond the competition, Baker’s success resonated at her former Perth Primary School, where Year‑6 students celebrated her achievement as a source of inspiration. The former pupil, a three‑time Olympian and world champion, regularly visits the school, sharing her story of resilience after personal setbacks, including the loss of her father and a crash at the 2016 Games.
