Australian cyclist Patrick Kelly tours Turkey on bicycle

Patrick Kelly, a 30-year-old cyclist from Brisbane, Australia, is currently undertaking a 5,000-kilometer bicycle world tour. After traveling through Europe and Greece, Kelly entered Turkey via Istanbul and has traveled through Kastamonu to reach the Vezirköprü district of Samsun.

During his journey, Kelly was hosted by Mecit Akbaş, a retired imam from the Esenler Merkez Mosque in Istanbul, who invited him into his home after noticing his fatigue. Kelly expressed deep admiration for Turkish hospitality, stating, “The people in Turkey are truly incredible, I loved it here and I was very happy.”

Kelly, who maintains a minimalist lifestyle and pedals an average of 80 kilometers per day, plans to continue his three-month tour through Amasya, Trabzon, Van, and Hakkari. He intends to complete his Turkish route in Istanbul before returning to Australia by plane.
