Australian fan's last‑minute dash to World Cup 2026 final in New York

Melbourne‑based Argentinian‑Australian fan Delfina Moresco flew to New York within hours of Argentina’s semi‑final win, spending thousands of dollars to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. She said, "The vibe on the street, the parties after the match, it’s genuinely the best thing I’ve done in my life."

The trip highlights the high costs associated with the tournament, which FIFA projects to generate over $15 billion in revenue from its expanded 48‑team format. Fans have faced dynamic ticket pricing, resale fees and added expenses such as transit, parking and even hydration‑break television revenue. Tour operator Travelrite International led a group of 70 Australian supporters on a similar US tour, with ticket prices ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 per match.
