Australian grains industry seeks unified government approach to expand Asian trade
At the Australian Grains Industry Conference, industry leaders emphasized that unlocking South-east Asian markets requires a unified approach between the Australian government and the grains sector.
John Southwell, Grains Australia general manager of trade and market access, stated that Australia must promote its scientific research, export standards, and policy development to prospective partners. He noted that selling the quality of the industry's processes and standards is as vital as selling the grain itself.
Southwell cited the successful recovery of the Indian market for Australian chickpeas as a primary example of how effective communication between industry, Austrade, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Indian government can deliver economic benefits.
