Australian hiker Jordan Yap found dead in Peru
The family of 30-year-old Australian trekker Jordan Yap has confirmed that he was found dead in Peru. Yap had been missing since September 14, when he began a planned 10-day solo trek through the remote Huayhuash mountain range, located approximately 400km northeast of Lima.
The Huayhuash circuit is a high-altitude route known for its steep and rugged terrain. The alarm was raised after Yap failed to check in at his hotel and missed a scheduled flight. His body was reportedly found near the remote village of Machaycancha.
Yap’s family, who had hired the local mountain rescue organization Socorro Andino Peruano to assist in the search, expressed gratitude to the various teams and individuals who contributed to the efforts. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family.
