Australian judoka Josh Katz takes silver after emotional loss at Commonwealth Games
Josh Katz, 28, was defeated in the men’s -60 kg judo final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, losing to India’s Harsh Singh by a waza‑ari in the last minute. The Australian earned a silver medal, finishing ahead of teammate Pedro Antun Neto, who claimed bronze.
Katz broke down in tears on the shoulder of his coach and older brother, Nathan Katz, who was seated in the coach’s box. He described the defeat as “gutted” and expressed uncertainty about future opportunities to compete for gold. Other Australian judokas also missed the podium, including defending champion Tinka Easton and debutant Vas Middleton.
The bout took place on 31 July 2026 at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, and highlighted the close competition between Australia and India in the sport.
