Australian Liberal frontbencher Dan Tehan rejects coalition talks with One Nation

Liberal frontbencher Dan Tehan said his party will not discuss forming a coalition with the populist One Nation party. In multiple interviews he emphasized that the Liberal Party’s focus remains a partnership with the National Party, stating “we are very happy being a coalition of the Liberal Party and the National Party.”

Tehan dismissed speculation that One Nation’s recent poll lead, with senator Pauline Hanson topping nationwide surveys, would translate into a formal alliance. He compared the idea to a coalition between Labor and the Greens, saying it is “not even being talked about.” Fellow Liberal Andrew Hastie has also ruled out any deal with One Nation, a stance Tehan echoed.

The comments came as former Liberal leader Tony Abbott faced criticism for his remarks on migration, which Tehan said are set by the party room, not individual leaders. Tehan stressed the Liberal‑National coalition remains the only viable government arrangement for Australia.
