Australian libraries celebrate Children's Book Week 2026

Children's Book Week 2026 is returning to Australia from August 22 to 28, centered around the theme ‘Symphony of Stories’. The annual celebration aims to promote Australian children's literature and encourage a lifelong love of reading among young audiences.

In the Armidale and Uralla regions, local libraries are hosting various activities. The Uralla Library has scheduled a special storytime session for Tuesday, August 25, where children are invited to dress as their favorite book characters. Meanwhile, the Armidale War Memorial Library is featuring a display of the 2026 Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year winners and finalists.

Since its inception in 1945, Book Week has served as a major national event for libraries, schools, and families to celebrate authors and illustrators. This year's musical-inspired theme emphasizes how different voices and ideas in books contribute to a broader narrative.
