Australian literary festivals announce upcoming programs

Major Australian literary festivals are preparing for upcoming editions in Brisbane and Canberra.

The Brisbane Writers Festival is scheduled to return to the Brisbane Powerhouse from October 8–11, 2026. The program features over 110 events and more than 200 Australian and international artists. Notable guests include Suzie Miller, Richard Flanagan, Pip Williams, and international authors such as Andrew O’Hagan and Alice Oseman. The festival will include First Nations guest curators Bruce Pascoe, Bebe Oliver, and Samantha Faulkner.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Canberra Writers Festival will also host over 110 events and 200 artists across four days in October. The lineup includes international crime writers, Booker Prize nominees, and local Canberra authors. Featured activities include a book club Hyatt High Tea hosted by reviewer Bronwyn Swasbrick.
