Australian Lithium Market Gains Momentum Amid Rising Energy‑Storage Demand

Global demand for lithium is shifting toward energy‑storage applications, driving an estimated 12% annual growth over the next decade, according to Fastmarkets analyst Paul Lusty. Australia, the world’s largest lithium producer at 31% of output in 2025, remains a key supplier despite growing competition from China, Zimbabwe, Chile and other regions.

On the Australian Securities Exchange, lithium stocks have posted strong year‑to‑date gains, with Patagonia Lithium among the top performers. Investor confidence is reflected in the upcoming ASX float of Whiterock Lithium, slated for late August, which will list the company’s Banana lithium project. Prices for spodumene and lithium carbonate have rebounded from lows earlier in the year, keeping the sector attractive for new junior ventures and capital raisings.

The market outlook stays constructive through 2027‑2028, with analysts expecting lithium prices to hover around US$30 per kilogram before new supply moderates the cycle.
