Australian man pleads not guilty to Thai teenager's murder

Simon Peter Carman, a 45-year-old Australian man, has pleaded not guilty to all charges following his first court appearance in Pattaya, Thailand. Carman faces charges of intentional murder, concealing a body, and two counts of indecent acts involving a minor.

The case involves the death of 17-year-old Thanchanok Donhomla, who was reported missing in June. Authorities discovered her body inside a suitcase after Carman was intercepted by immigration officials at Suvarnabhumi Airport while attempting to board a flight to Australia. CCTV footage reportedly showed Carman entering a condominium with the teenager and later leaving alone with a large suitcase, which he was seen loading onto a motorbike.

During his court appearance, Carman claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging that the teenager followed him and threatened him with a knife after he refused to give her money. He also claimed he has suffered physical assaults and significant weight loss while in custody. The Pattaya Provincial Court is currently deciding whether to proceed to trial, with the next court date scheduled for October 12.
