Australian men face court for assault and theft charges

Two separate legal proceedings took place in Australia involving assault and theft charges.

In Wodonga, 43-year-old Stephen Wilson pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon. CCTV footage showed Wilson striking a neighbor in the shoulder with a shovel handle. Wilson claimed he believed the victim was armed with a knife and was threatening another neighbor. Magistrate Ian Watkins noted Wilson's history of non-compliance with previous corrections orders and ordered him to serve four days in custody.

In Wagga Wagga, 55-year-old John Keith Bryce appeared in court charged with breaking and entering a shed to steal a gas barbecue, gardening tools, kindling, and a jerrycan. Bryce, who resides in a camper at Wilks Park, also faced charges for unlicensed driving and failing to appear in court. The judge ordered a sentencing assessment report to evaluate Bryce's mental state and background before sentencing on September 28.
