Australian ministers reject One Nation immigration and superannuation proposals

Australian government ministers have rejected recent policy proposals from One Nation leader Pauline Hanson regarding immigration and superannuation.

Hanson proposed blocking migration from countries listed on the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade ‘do not travel’ list, citing security risks. She suggested pausing all newcomers from such nations, including refugee and humanitarian visa applicants. Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen dismissed the idea, stating Australia needs its own immigration policy rather than one ‘stolen from Donald Trump’ and noting that many migrants from those regions have contributed significantly to the community.

Separately, Hanson argued that the compulsory superannuation system is ‘broken’ and suggested Australians should be allowed to access their funds to manage the cost-of-living crisis or for home deposits. Treasurer Jim Chalmers responded by accusing One Nation of wanting to ‘destroy’ the retirement system, labeling the party a threat to the economic security of Australian workers.
