Australian police charge suspects after July shootings in Queensland and New South Wales

Queensland Police charged four individuals following investigations into two shooting incidents in the Mackay Northern Beaches area on 8 July. The first incident involved gunfire outside an Andergrove Road licensed premises, leading to seizures of seven stolen firearms, including pistols and rifles, and multiple drug and weapons charges for a 25‑year‑old South Mackay man, a 26‑year‑old Beaconsfield man, a 19‑year‑old North Mackay woman and a 31‑year‑old North Mackay man. A separate shooting was reported around 2:40 am on the same day at a residence on Denman Avenue in Shoal Point; no one was injured and police continue to investigate possible links.

In New South Wales, a 21‑year‑old man was charged after a woman was shot in the arm outside a unit on Paper Street, Gateshead, Lake Macquarie, on 30 June. The victim received treatment at John Hunter Hospital. Police later executed a search warrant at a home on South Street, Windale, seizing ammunition, knuckledusters and electronics. The suspect faces charges of discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and related offences, and will appear in court on 8 July.
