Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese apologises for Kylie Minogue podcast remarks

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese appeared on comedian Nikki Osborne’s podcast and was asked to choose between Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Rhonda Burchmore in a “shag, marry, date” segment. He responded that all three options applied to Minogue, adding “She’s terrific”. The remarks sparked criticism from politicians and the public, with Independent MP Zali Steggall calling the comments “entirely inappropriate” and Shadow communications minister Sarah Henderson describing them as disrespectful to women and embarrassing for Australia.

In response, Albanese issued an unequivocal apology, stating he was sorry for the comments. Labour ministers defended his broader record on gender equality, while the incident raised questions about the conduct expected of the prime minister in media appearances. No policy changes were announced, and Minogue did not comment on the controversy.
