Australian property auctions show mixed results in Sydney and Melbourne

The Australian property auction market shows divergent trends across major cities. In Sydney, the market remains in a buyer’s position, with preliminary auction clearance rates recorded at 53 per cent. This figure is a slight decrease from the previous week’s 57 per cent, remaining below the 60 per cent threshold typically considered a balanced market. Out of 706 scheduled auctions in Sydney last week, 133 were withdrawn.

In Melbourne, competitive bidding was observed in specific segments. A Victorian terrace in Carlton North sold for $1,819,000, exceeding its initial price guide of $1.7 million to $1.79 million. Additionally, a property in Rowville sold for $1,336,000. These results come as Victoria prepares for new regulations effective October 1, which will require property advertisements to disclose reserve prices.
