Australian real estate industry undergoes regulatory and structural shifts

The Australian real estate industry is undergoing significant regulatory and structural shifts. eXp Realty Australia has announced a transition to a model where agents operate on a fully licensed Class 1 basis. To support Class 2 agents during this change, the company is providing pathways for them to obtain Class 1 licensing or work under the supervision of a fully licensed eXp Licensee.

Separately, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has reached a court-enforceable undertaking with REA Group and realestate.com.au. The agreement requires the removal of contract clauses that previously forced real estate agencies to list all their properties on the portal. Additionally, starting January 1, 2027, agencies will have the right to move at least a quarter of their pre-committed listings to cheaper tiers, providing greater flexibility in advertising spend.
