Australian regional galleries launch new collaborative and immersive exhibitions
Several regional art institutions in Australia are launching significant new exhibitions. In New South Wales, the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, Cowra Regional Art Gallery, and Orange Regional Gallery have partnered for a debut collaborative series. This initiative features three distinct exhibitions—Grounding, Retrospection, and Affinities—designed to showcase local talent, history, and the connection to the land, with a specific emphasis on First Nations art in the Bathurst collection.
In Newcastle, the Newcastle Art Gallery has unveiled two major shows following its recent expansion. The gallery is hosting 'Angela Tiatia: Muse', a career-spanning exhibition by the prominent Newcastle-based artist, which includes works featuring footage from the Matildas' 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign. Additionally, the gallery is presenting the Australian debut of A. A. Murakami’s 'New Spring', an immersive, multisensory installation that uses custom-built machines to recreate natural phenomena.
