Australian Royal Commission probes antisemitism and extremism amid Middle East conflict fallout

Australia's Royal Commission into antisemitism has held a series of hearings examining how university protests and broader societal tensions intersect with the Israel‑Gaza conflict. Witnesses, including university vice‑chancellors Mark Scott (Sydney) and Glyn Davis (Melbourne), testified that student encampments supporting Palestine were not linked to antisemitic complaints, while an antisemitism envoy, Jillian Segal, called for media oversight of Israel coverage and questioned Gaza death figures.

The commission also investigated the rise of violent extremism linked to overseas conflicts.
