Australian schools celebrate Book Week with literary parades

Schools across Australia are celebrating Book Week, an annual event organized by the Children's Book Council of Australia. This year's theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’.

At Lumen Christi in Ballarat, students and staff participated in parades wearing costumes ranging from classic fairytales to modern characters like the Ghostbusters and the Joker. Assistant principal Shane Bruty emphasized the importance of physical books in a digital age, noting that hard copies help prevent the distractions often found on digital devices.

At Tamworth Public School, nearly 890 students dressed as literary characters to celebrate the joy of reading. The event included participation from school administration and staff. To support literacy, local retailer Collins Booksellers donated 20 per cent of its takings to the school library, allowing students to choose how the funds are spent.
