Misogyny in Australian schools linked to online manosphere content

Australian schools are experiencing a crisis of rampant misogyny and sexism, much of which is attributed to the influence of the "manosphere"—an online subculture of male-centered content that can promote gender stereotypes and violence against women. Experts suggest that many public and independent schools are currently ill-equipped to address these behaviors.

Reports indicate that female educators are increasingly leaving the profession due to these issues. One Melbourne primary school teacher reported suffering months of physical abuse and sexual harassment from male students aged between five and 13. The Australian Education Union has called on education departments to implement clearer policies, adequate resources, and strong leadership to ensure schools remain safe environments.

Data from the Crime Statistics Agency revealed that over the past decade, at least 35 allegations of rape and 198 alleged indecent assaults were reported by or at schools, involving alleged offenders between the ages of 10 and 17.
