Australian sharemarket slips amid inflation concerns

The S&P/ASX 200 index fell 0.07 per cent to 8,810.9 during Wednesday trading, reversing early gains. The decline followed comments from Reserve Bank Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser, who indicated that inflation is materially worse than previous central bank forecasts. These remarks have increased market expectations for a potential interest rate rise in November, with traders pricing in a 43 per cent probability.

In corporate news, Locality Planning Energy Holdings (LPE) secured a 15-year energy services agreement with Walker Corporation for a development in Maroochydore, Queensland. The deal includes electricity supply, smart metering, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure for 248 residences and commercial spaces.

Other market factors included falling oil and gold prices, which may impact energy and gold mining stocks such as Beach Energy, Santos, and Northern Star Resources. Additionally, Sigma Healthcare is expected to provide a trading update at its annual general meeting.
