Australian small businesses face regulatory pressure
During the opening of the Land Forces Expo in Perth, business owner Hamish Hastie raised concerns regarding the economic pressures facing Australian small businesses. Hastie argued that while the government promotes an 'open for business' rhetoric for large corporations, small enterprises are being burdened by increasing costs, rules, and regulations.
Small businesses constitute over 97 percent of all businesses in Australia, contribute nearly one-third of the national gross domestic product, and represent a significant portion of the private sector workforce. Hastie noted that current government focus on large-scale projects, such as new data centers and defense-adjacent mineral extraction, may not adequately serve the majority of the Australian population or the small business sector.
