APA Group to build solar and battery project in Queensland

APA Group has reached a final investment decision to develop the Sybella Creek Solar Farm and a 104MWh battery energy storage system in Mount Isa, Queensland. The AU$259 million project is designed to provide a lower-emissions energy solution for Ernest Henry Mining, a subsidiary of Evolution Mining, through an energy supply agreement lasting until mid-2046.

The project aims to enhance network reliability and resilience for mining operations and the local community in the North West Minerals Province. This investment follows the completion of the Dugald River solar farm and aligns with APA’s strategy to integrate renewable energy and storage with existing gas-fired generation.

In its FY26 financial results, APA reported an 8.3% increase in underlying EBITDA to AU$2,183 million, exceeding guidance. The company also saw a 3.2% increase in free cash flow and a significant jump in statutory net profit. APA has increased distributions for the 22nd consecutive year and maintains a growing renewable energy development pipeline.
