Australian sprinter Aidan Murphy runs sub‑20 200 m at national championships

Aidan Murphy broke the 20‑second barrier in the 200 metres at the Australian national championships, posting a time of 19.88 seconds. Although his teammate Gout Gout crossed the line first by a fraction of a second, Murphy’s performance marked the first legal sub‑20 effort by an Australian in the event.

Murphy, traditionally a 400 metre runner, said the race pushed both athletes and expressed confidence ahead of his upcoming appearance at the Glasgow meet, where he will face world‑leading rivals such as Jaiden Reid.
