Australian sprinter Lachlan Kennedy nears secret training formula

Australian sprint star Lachlan Kennedy says he is closing in on a "secret formula" that could boost his speed ahead of the Commonwealth Games. He explained that finding the balance between training intensity and injury avoidance is critical, noting, "Every year, every session, I’m learning a bit more about where that line is… I’m getting closer and closer to that secret formula – the perfect recipe for success."

University of Queensland sport‑psychology professor and former Olympic coach Cliff Mallett outlined the technical focus of Kennedy’s program, emphasizing high‑quality, short‑duration speed work, core‑stability drills and power lifts, and stressing the importance of recovery to prevent hamstring injuries. Kennedy recently broke the 10‑second barrier in the 100 m twice (9.96 s) at the Australian Athletics Championships, while fellow sprinter Gout Gout withdrew from the Commonwealth Games roster after a hamstring tear.

The coaching insights aim to support Kennedy and fellow Australian sprinters as they target Olympic medals and further elevate the nation’s sprinting profile.
