Australian surf clubs increase patrols after fatal shark attack

Following a fatal shark attack at Sorrento Beach last Friday that claimed the life of Greg O’Neill, local surf life saving clubs are increasing their presence to reassure the community.

Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) has announced it will begin volunteer patrols earlier than scheduled starting this upcoming long weekend. In a show of solidarity, the Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club will also deploy volunteers to conduct patrols from 8am to 11am each day of the long weekend to support ocean safety and provide reassurance to swimmers.

Sorrento SLSC president Rob Doherty noted that the tragic incident has prompted questions regarding ocean safety and that the increased patrol presence is a practical step to address the community's concerns during this difficult time.
