Australian surgeon Mackenzie Little clinches javelin gold at Commonwealth Games

Mackenzie Little, a 29‑year‑old surgeon and ear‑nose‑throat registrar at Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney, won the women’s javelin gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Throwing a season‑best 61.88 m on her first attempt in Scotstoun Stadium, she out‑performed New Zealand’s Tori Moorby (silver) and Kenya’s Irene Jepkemboi (bronze). Little said she would fly back to Sydney immediately to resume her medical duties.

The victory came on the final night of track and field, alongside pole‑vaulter Kurtis Marschall’s record‑breaking third consecutive Commonwealth Games title for Australia.
