Australian suspect claims self-defense in Pattaya teen murder

Simon Peter Carman, a 45-year-old Australian national, is facing charges in Thailand for the death of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla, whose body was discovered in a suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya in late June.

During an interview from Pattaya Prison, Carman claimed he acted in self-defense. He stated that after a dispute over money at his condominium, the victim produced a knife, leading him to strangle her while attempting to restrain her. Carman maintained he believed the girl was between 20 and 30 years old and was unaware she was a minor. He admitted to placing her body in a suitcase and transporting it to a roadside location.

The victim's father, Thongchai Donhomla, has rejected Carman's apologies, stating that the suspect must take full responsibility for his actions. The family is seeking justice and intends to oppose any requests for Carman to be released on bail.
