Australian tourist stabbed at Manhattan McDonald’s

A 19-year-old Australian tourist was stabbed multiple times while eating at a McDonald’s in Midtown Manhattan early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at the restaurant located on Eighth Avenue, near Times Square and Penn Station.

The victim sustained wounds to his rib cage and back. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was initially reported to be in critical condition but is expected to survive.

Law enforcement sources stated that while words were exchanged between the victim and the attacker, the assault appeared to be largely unprovoked. Police arrested 25-year-old Juan Mercedes at the scene, who has been charged with second-degree assault. Local customers noted a pattern of frequent arguments and fighting at this specific location during late-night hours.
