Australian traveler denied Bali flight over passport smudge

An Australian traveler, Emmison Caddy, was prevented from boarding a Jetstar flight from the Gold Coast to Bali due to a minor imperfection on her passport. Jetstar staff identified a small red smudge in the corner of the document, which they classified as damage.

Airline employees informed Ms. Caddy that if she were permitted to fly with the perceived damage, she would likely be repatriated to Australia upon arrival in Bali, potentially resulting in heavy fines for the aviation company.

To rectify the situation, Ms. Caddy had to rebook her flight and seek an emergency passport from the Australian Passport Office in Brisbane, a process costing approximately $700. Following the incident, she used social media to urge other travelers to thoroughly inspect their passports before heading to Indonesia.
