Australian universities advance in global academic rankings

Australian universities have achieved notable results in recent global academic rankings. The University of Melbourne rose to 34th place in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, moving up three positions from the previous year and maintaining its status as the top-ranked university in Australia.

Griffith University also saw significant advancement, climbing 24 places to reach 266th in the 2027 THE World University Rankings. Additionally, Griffith secured the top position in Australia for nursing according to the Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking for Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2026. The university also earned high national rankings in hospitality and tourism management, while several subjects including law, political sciences, and economics were ranked first in Queensland.
