Australia's anti‑Semitism royal commission hears abuse of Holocaust survivor’s family

Human‑rights lawyer identified as ACH testified before the third block of Australia’s public anti‑Semitism Royal Commission in Sydney, describing a flood of anti‑Jewish comments he received when trying to sell his late grandparents’ house. Among the remarks was a “cool tattoo” slur directed at his dead grandmother, a Holocaust survivor, which he described as “deeply upsetting and confronting.”

The commission, focusing on the treatment of Jewish people in mainstream and social media, will hear from ABC, SBS and dozens of Jewish Australians. Experts such as social‑media researcher Matteo Vergani and a Deakin University associate professor argued for targeting online hate “clusters” rather than individual posts. Academics Andre Oboler, Terry Flew, Rob Nicholls and researcher Hannah Rose are also scheduled to testify about online extremism and anti‑Semitism.
