Australia's electric vehicle sales hit record levels in July 2026

July 2026 saw Australia’s new‑vehicle market deliver a record 103,656 deliveries, with battery‑electric vehicles (BEVs) accounting for 23,510 units – 21.7% of all sales. The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries chief executive Tony Weber said the month “demonstrated extraordinary resilience” despite a cost‑of‑living crisis and warned that charging infrastructure must keep pace with demand.

The total electric‑vehicle fleet in the country now exceeds 650,000 vehicles, roughly 3% of the national fleet. The Electric Vehicle Council’s CEO Julie Delvecchio highlighted that EVs are saving Australian households about $3,000 a year on fuel and maintenance. Volvo reported that fully electric models made up 42% of its sales year‑to‑date and 65% in July, while Tesla’s Model Y continued to dominate the market, with strong interest in its new six‑seat version.
