Australia's Jim Chalmers pitches nation as safe investment haven in Tokyo
Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers is conducting a high-level diplomatic and economic mission in Tokyo to position Australia as a ‘safe harbour’ for Japanese investment. Amid global economic uncertainty, Chalmers is pitching Australia as a leader in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals.
During his two-day visit, the Treasurer is scheduled to meet with more than 30 CEOs and business leaders, including Kenichi Hori of Mitsui & Co. and Juro Baba of Mitsubishi Corporation. The pitch highlights Australia’s $4.8 trillion superannuation system as a significant pool of capital and includes a roundtable focused on Japanese residential development to address housing.
This mission follows recent statements by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese regarding the need for middle powers to build new partnerships in a changing international order.
