Australia's Labor government faces criticism over immigration management

According to the latest Resolve Political Monitor, 54 per cent of voters believe the Albanese government is managing Australia’s immigration portfolio in an “unplanned and unmanaged way”. This criticism comes as the Labor government prepares to introduce stricter regulations regarding asylum claims and visa overstayers.

Despite the dissatisfaction with immigration, the government received support from 60 per cent of voters regarding lower house prices. Additionally, support for Labor’s proposed changes to negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount significantly outweighed opposition.

While the cost of living remains the primary concern for voters, concern over the issue dropped by 9 points to 36 per cent. Political standing for major parties remained largely stable, with Labor holding a 28 per cent primary vote, the Coalition at 23 per cent, and One Nation at 26 per cent.
