Australia’s large-scale battery projects secure new contracts
Enerven, an Australian engineering and construction firm, is delivering the Summerfield battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Australia. The company highlights its focus on safety, reliability and direct communication, saying, “Safety, reliability and direct communication are central to how we operate at Enerven,” and notes its use of digital engineering, drone inspections and remote monitoring to support complex, high‑voltage projects across the National Electricity Market.
Neoen Australia has signed two new virtual contracts for the Western Downs battery in Queensland, expanding the project to a total capacity of 845 MW and 2,300 MWh. Deals were struck with energy retailers Smartest Energy and Nectr, adding to earlier agreements with Engie, AGL Energy and Shell. Stage 3 construction, managed by UGL and involving 312 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, is on track for commissioning in the summer of 2027/28.
