Australia's National Electricity Market hits record rooftop solar output
Rooftop solar generation in Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) has reached a new all-time high. On Sunday, October 11, instantaneous rooftop solar output hit 17,488 MW, surpassing a record set just three weeks prior.
This milestone follows a series of regional records across several states. In New South Wales, rooftop solar output reached 6,346 MW on October 9. Previously, on October 7, South Australia recorded a peak of 2,070 MW, while Victoria hit a high of 4,191 MW.
At the time of the NEM peak, the combined share of distributed PV and utility-scale solar in total consumption reached 72.29%. Experts note that these instantaneous output records demonstrate the expanding contribution of consumer energy resources and a changing daytime operating environment for the grid.
