Australia's National Science Week launches with Kings Park event and nationwide family activities

A special VIP launch at Kings Park and Botanic Garden marked the start of Australia’s National Science Week, running 15‑23 August 2026. Hosted by Scitech, the ceremony brought together leading scientists and conservation experts to showcase research protecting Western Australia’s unique biodiversity, and included a behind‑the‑scenes tour of the Biodiversity Conservation Centre laboratories.

Across the country, a series of family‑friendly events were announced, featuring giant dinosaur puppets, liquid‑nitrogen shows, balloon‑shaped vegetables, marine‑education surf waves, and Indigenous knowledge walks led by Noongar educator Rickeeta Walley. Additional programmes included a wildflower competition, an app‑based turtle‑saving initiative, and collaborations with ABC on the “Australia’s Favourite Wildflower” project. The week aims to engage the public in science, research and conservation through interactive experiences in cities from Sydney to Perth.
