Australia's Productivity Commission recommends three‑storey height limit for townhouses

The Australian Productivity Commission has recommended that the general height limit for residential buildings across the country be set at three storeys, even in areas that are currently low‑density suburbs.

The commission says Australia does not build enough homes where people want to live and that allowing three‑storey townhouses could help hold down housing prices, restrain the spread of Greater Newcastle up the Hunter Valley, preserve bush and farmland, and constitute a major urban shift toward medium‑density housing.
