Australia's Socceroos push for direct 2026 World Cup qualification

Australia's national team, the Socceroos, are competing in the third round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will feature 48 teams. The campaign emphasizes a blend of veteran leadership and emerging talent, with winger Nestory Irankunda and midfielder Connor Metcalfe highlighted as key goal‑scoring contributors.

After securing qualification, Australia reached the round of 16 at the tournament in North America, where they were eliminated by Egypt on penalties.
