Australia's Truckie First Aid program reaches 4,000 drivers

Since its launch in October 2023, the free online Truckie First Aid course, developed by NatRoad in partnership with St John Ambulance Australia, has trained more than 4,000 truck drivers across the country. The 30‑minute program teaches essential first‑aid skills such as CPR, airway management, severe bleeding control and AED use, targeting drivers who are often the first on the scene of road crashes.

NatRoad CEO Warren Clark said the milestone shows the industry’s strong commitment to road safety, noting that truck drivers travel to remote regions where emergency services may be delayed. The course now offers Punjabi, Mandarin, Hindi and Arabic versions, funded through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative and supported by the Australian Government. St John Ambulance Australia Director of Partnerships, Fairlie Tucker, highlighted that early intervention can mean the difference between life and death, with each minute of delayed CPR reducing survival chances by ten percent.
