Austria: 40 percent of residents engage in neighborhood assistance
A survey conducted by ImmoScout24 involving 1,000 participants reveals that 40 percent of people in Austria actively engage in neighborhood assistance. The most frequent form of help is small-scale manual or craft support, reported by 18 percent of respondents.
Other common activities include supporting elderly or single-living individuals and pet sitting, which account for 14 percent of engagement. Additionally, 11 percent of participants assist with communal areas such as gardens or playgrounds, and 10 percent help organize or execute neighborhood events.
The survey highlights significant potential for increased community involvement. While 70 percent of respondents expressed a willingness to support elderly or single-living neighbors, and 59 percent considered helping newcomers, actual participation in these areas remains low at 5 percent. Similarly, 56 percent of people are open to helping with neighborhood events, compared to only 10 percent who are currently active.
