Austria approves construction of Fernpass Tunnel
The Tirol regional government’s environmental and legal department has granted approval for the Fernpass Tunnel and its accompanying road works in the Außerfern region of Austria. Local mayors Harald Schönherr of Bieberwier and Herbert Kröll of Nasserreith expressed support, highlighting anticipated benefits such as reduced traffic congestion, lower tyre and brake dust emissions, and improved leisure and environmental conditions.
The approval ends previous local resistance, allowing construction to commence. The project is slated for completion within four years from the start of work, aiming to enhance connectivity and address traffic issues in the Tyrol area.
