Austria car market sees rise in alternative propulsion registrations
In Austria, new passenger car registrations reached 21,788 in August, representing a 1.6 percent year-on-year increase. For the first eight months of the year, total registrations rose by 12 percent compared to the previous year, totaling 212,140 units.
Alternative propulsion vehicles now account for two-thirds of the market, rising to a 66.4 percent share. Between January and August, registrations for these vehicles increased by 24.4 percent. Specifically, pure electric vehicle registrations grew by 31.1 percent to 53,449 units, while petrol-hybrid registrations rose by 26.7 percent to 78,648 units.
In terms of market share for the first eight months, Volkswagen led with 13.6 percent, followed by Skoda at 10.8 percent, BMW at 6.5 percent, and Audi at 6.3 percent. The Chinese brand BYD showed the most dynamic growth at 68.4 percent, despite starting from a lower base.
